At Lightning Lab, we encourage all of our applicants, companies, and alumni to think big, and work on global problems that can grow into big businesses. A big part of this for some of our companies and alumni is working in and selling into the U.S. market, and we are always looking for better ways to help them do this.
Not only does this offer the opportunity for them to scale, but to access U.S. expertise and capital. Unfortunately, our founders usually have to navigate fairly complicated and expensive processes to get access to some of the basics to do business in the States. Generally speaking, investors will be unwilling to invest in an offshore legal entity, and it can be difficult to collect U.S. revenue across borders into New Zealand bank accounts.
Today, our friends at Stripe have announced the launch of Atlas, a new product for international companies that’s designed to streamline the process of getting business up and running in the U.S. market.
Atlas allows founders to get everything they need to start taking payments in the states by simply filling out a web form. Stripe handles the rest, providing each business with:
- An incorporated U.S. business entity
- A U.S. bank account
- A live Stripe account to receive payments from anywhere in the world
- Access to services they’ll need to get started; including tax advice from PwC, legal guidance from leading international law firm Orrick, and $15,000 credit to Amazon Web Services to help scale their newly global business
We’re excited to be the exclusive New Zealand member of the Stripe Atlas network.
Stripe will be working with Lightning Lab, our cohorts and alumni companies during the private beta of Atlas to help them spread their wings into the U.S. market. We’re excited to be working with Stripe and to be able to offer this incredible service to the companies we work with.
