Q. What’s your background?
A. I come from almost 15 years of product marketing, largely in North American organisations. I’ve always been really commercially driven so business growth is a passion of mine. For the past few years, I’ve been with Wipster establishing and growing sales and marketing channels. More recently, I moved into an operations role focused on supporting capital raising, developing partnerships, and financial modelling/management. I’m pretty competitive and thrive in new and challenging environments.
Q. Why are you passionate about startups?
A. Startups are the great equaliser. In large part, startups level the playing field – no matter your school pedigree, geographic location, or bank balance; there are countless stories of pure grit to get a successful business off the ground. Startups are also the ultimate story in human connection. They are a vehicle to create a genuine movement, convincing people to break with tradition – together with you.
Q. What drew you to the Kiwibank FinTech Accelerator?
A. FinTech is radically changing how we live and how we do business. It’s one of the most exciting ‘movements’ in 2016 – businesses can offer more financial services than ever and for a fraction of the price of what it would have cost before. In 2017, we’ll see an incredible increase in the number of partnerships between our startups and corporates – which is exactly what Kiwibank FinTech Accelerator is – a marriage between innovative solutions and the channels to market from the likes of Xero and Kiwibank.
Q. What’s your vision for the programme?
A. I’d like to think we can establish New Zealand as a fintech hub alongside Australia, further solidifying Oceania as a credible fintech player on a global stage.
Q. What are you most excited about heading into the programme?
A. The teams – it’s all about the ventures! Taking 30 entrepreneurs and providing the support and resources required to launch a viable, scalable – and global – business.
