There are three key stages for investment in Lightning Lab companies:
- Each cohort of Lightning Lab is privately backed by a pool of founding investors who share a minority stake in the portfolio of ventures in the programme.
- We are currently accepting expressions of interest for founding investors for Lightning Lab XX 2016 and Lightning Lab Digital Auckland 2016.
Showing foresight by investing during a team’s Lightning Lab residency (typically in form of a convertible note) can make a big difference for ventures and their ability to raise money on a significantly higher valuation during Demo Day (Lightning Lab’s investment event at the end of the 12-week programme).
The highlight of the Lightning Lab programme is undoubtedly Demo Day – an opportunity for each of the ventures to pitch their business to several hundred investors from Australasia’s investment communities.
Demo Day is amazing, hugely inspiring and gratifying, but don’t take our word for it:
“Super slick event, great pitches.” – Sam Morgan, founder TradeMe
“Best ‘early stage’ event I’ve ever attended, anywhere – quality, investable businesses with world class pitches.” – Mark Vivian, MOVAC
“As a sponsor and entrepreneur I have been speaking with a number of my investment contacts individually and the feedback was universal. The pitches they saw today were the best pitches from the best companies they have seen in the last 5 years.” – Nick Willis, CEO Citylink
“The energy and confidence was palpable; from the speakers and presenters through to the mentors and investors, a great base from which to build on.” – Paul Mersi, chair Grow Wellington
“What we saw today from a Wellington-base was very impressive. Great to see the companies come through as they have” – Sir Stephen Tindall, K1W1
