Lightning Lab is excited to be launching two initiatives in 2017; the Lightning Lab Electric Accelerator and the Innovation Challenge.
New Zealand’s first Electricity Sector focussed programme, Lightning Lab Electric, will be run in Wellington from May to August 2017.
The programme provides teams with structure, startup methodologies, business skills and focused support so they can prove, build and launch their ideas into market, with speed.
Lightning Lab Electric is dedicated to teams forging new businesses in the electricity sector. Entries into the Innovation Challenge may be the first step to a successful application for Lightning Lab Electric and are due 1 May.
The programme will receive the support of mentors over the 14 weeks, who work alongside the teams to help develop their ideas into investable companies with global potential.
Throughout the programme, the teams will be surrounded by the connections and expertise they need to move at lightning speed. Local and international speakers will bring their specialised knowledge into the lab, and the teams have the opportunity to engage with them one on one.
For 100 days of intense programming, Lightning Lab Electric 2017 will showcase its startups at Demo Day on August 4th. The New Zealand startup community will be invited to attend and watch the pitches. Mentors, alumni, and supporters from the entrepreneurial community will come to witness the hard work of the companies.
After Demo Day companies are on well on their startup journey, raising money and closing sales to continue to grow and scale.
The electricity sector in New Zealand is ripe for disruption. Innovation is happening but too often in the context of traditional systems and technologies that can limit the potential of new energy solutions.
The partners and supporters of Lightning Lab Electric are backing a shift lifting all innovation in the sector towards some of the fundamental shifts we will see in energy use, generation, management and distribution over coming years.
Lightning Lab Electric is an accelerator programme designed to support those pushing boundaries to improve the electricity market, how we use energy, and to inspire new ideas and solutions for the industry.
Bringing together generators and retailers, network companies and data companies, alongside sustainability champions and providers of big data platforms Lightning Lab Electric provides a powerful network of support and access for new startups to leverage, work with and learn from.
Energy innovation is moving away from traditional capital-intensive platforms, systems and devices to data-driven solutions combined with emerging technologies right through from Consumer Solutions to Network Solutions to The Future Grid.
The Innovation Challenge is New Zealand’s first-ever open call for innovation in the electricity sector. We need New Zealand’s smartest minds looking to improve the future of electric energy in our lives. They might be inventors, designers, technologists, scientists, coders, engineers, designers, idea gurus, students or startup founders. Your entry will get expert analysis, industry attention and the chance at a finalist spot pitching to the Challenge panel for prizes worth $40,000.
We have a webinar series to answer all of your questions regarding the challenge, see below for dates and tune in to ask questions!
